Cornwall’s beautiful coastline and sandy beaches attract many visitors each year. But for people with mobility issues, enjoying these beaches can be tough. Beach wheelchair hire services in Cornwall are changing this, making sure everyone can enjoy the coast without worry.
Regular wheelchairs don’t work well on sand and rough areas. Beach wheelchairs, with their large, wide wheels, can easily move on these surfaces, making beach visits possible for everyone. In some locations walking aids which work on sand are also available.
Cornwall currently has many places where you can hire beach wheelchairs (as of June 2024). Here is a list of locations below. They are not available at all locations all year round and there is a lot of demand so be sure to ring or email first to check availability:

All places recommend booking ahead to make sure one is available. Contact the businesses and organisations above using phone or email. Some services are free, while others might ask for a small donation, deposit or hire fee.
The success of these services is due to the hard work of local communities and volunteers. Organizations, local businesses and charities, including Cornwall Mobility and Disability Cornwall & Isles of Scilly raise funds and maintain equipment, making sure these services continue. A recent grant from Cornwall Council has enabled an aging fleet of beach wheelchairs to be updated with brand new ones (March 2024).
Beach wheelchair hire in Cornwall is a big step towards making beaches accessible for everyone, improving life for people with disabilities and creating a more inclusive community. Beach wheelchair hire services are more than convenient—they’re essential. They give freedom to explore and enjoy the coast, making Cornwall’s beaches a welcoming place for everyone.
